this newgrounder has made tons of flash's none of them spam! He is kwing!
Hey Kwing can I interview you?
Well that's surprising... Sure, ask away.
Ok, who are you?
I'm a student/Flash designer. I've generally done well academically, despite a rather odd sense of humor, and my proficiency in mathematics has led me to start learning ActionScript 2.0.
How did you discover flash and what led you to newgrounds?
I'd seen SWFs for ages, but I saw the Animator vs. Animation series a while back, and re-watched it several times to carefully study the buttons and the interface. Since I waited until the time I could get Flash by reading up on tutorials. Before that, I was making flip books and animating with Pivot. I eventually bought it two years ago off of a spam email (NOWAI) for $50. The website is unfortunately no longer active.
I found Newgrounds sometime around the 3rd grade when someone showed me The Ultimate Showdown. I browsed there rather infrequently until three years ago, when I went to a camp that taught Flash and created my Newgrounds account to submit a little piece of crap that never passed.
would you let us see this "little piece of crap"?
I lost the file ages ago. Basically it was a stick figure jumping over a slanted wall, then trying to jump back over it the other way but decapitating himself. It was a bunch of tweens and his limbs frequently separated from each other.
I see. Your flash "platform tutorial as2" made you win your first award, how do you feel about that?
I was pretty psyched at first, and I guess I'm still happy about it. The biggest surprise was that almost everything with an award has outstanding presentation and intro stuff, and mine actually won without it. It was neat seeing my submission on the bottom of every page, but it was only for a day, which gave me an interesting insight as to the fact that you see the Turd of the Week get more publicity than a real winner.
To your original question, I'm happy, and anyone who's taking a quick look at my page will at least see that I've won an award.
oh well, anyway what is your favorite way to animate? Tweens or frame by frame
It depends on what I'm doing. I usually tween if it's with objects, like a container or making an object spin. The only time I use FBF is if I need some kind of effect for a game, such as fire, sparks, etc. or when I'm actually animating fights.
what inspires you to do flash?
Well to be honest I'm trying to perforate the portal with as many submissions as possible while not submitting any spam.
For my actual projects, Twins was inspired by playing Portal and Shift, while my Stick RPG remake was created after playing Moovlin and wanting to make a free-roaming PSP RPG.
So nothing singularly inspires me... Rather than that, I can often spontaneously generate an idea with little to no explanation as to how it got there.
it has been a good experience interviewing you, any last words?
PLEASE DON'T KILL ME!
