this newgrounder has made tons of flash's none of them spam! He is kwing!

Hey Kwing can I interview you?
Well that's surprising... Sure, ask away.

Ok, who are you?

I'm a student/Flash designer. I've generally done well academically, despite a rather odd sense of humor, and my proficiency in mathematics has led me to start learning ActionScript 2.0.

How did you discover flash and what led you to newgrounds?
I'd seen SWFs for ages, but I saw the Animator vs. Animation series a while back, and re-watched it several times to carefully study the buttons and the interface. Since I waited until the time I could get Flash by reading up on tutorials. Before that, I was making flip books and animating with Pivot. I eventually bought it two years ago off of a spam email (NOWAI) for $50. The website is unfortunately no longer active.

I found Newgrounds sometime around the 3rd grade when someone showed me The Ultimate Showdown. I browsed there rather infrequently until three years ago, when I went to a camp that taught Flash and created my Newgrounds account to submit a little piece of crap that never passed.
would you let us see this "little piece of crap"?

I lost the file ages ago. Basically it was a stick figure jumping over a slanted wall, then trying to jump back over it the other way but decapitating himself. It was a bunch of tweens and his limbs frequently separated from each other.

I see. Your flash "platform tutorial as2" made you win your first award, how do you feel about that?

I was pretty psyched at first, and I guess I'm still happy about it. The biggest surprise was that almost everything with an award has outstanding presentation and intro stuff, and mine actually won without it. It was neat seeing my submission on the bottom of every page, but it was only for a day, which gave me an interesting insight as to the fact that you see the Turd of the Week get more publicity than a real winner.

To your original question, I'm happy, and anyone who's taking a quick look at my page will at least see that I've won an award.
oh well, anyway what is your favorite way to animate? Tweens or frame by frame
It depends on what I'm doing. I usually tween if it's with objects, like a container or making an object spin. The only time I use FBF is if I need some kind of effect for a game, such as fire, sparks, etc. or when I'm actually animating fights.
what inspires you to do flash?

Well to be honest I'm trying to perforate the portal with as many submissions as possible while not submitting any spam.

For my actual projects, Twins was inspired by playing Portal and Shift, while my Stick RPG remake was created after playing Moovlin and wanting to make a free-roaming PSP RPG.

So nothing singularly inspires me... Rather than that, I can often spontaneously generate an idea with little to no explanation as to how it got there.

it has been a good experience interviewing you, any last words?

PLEASE DON'T KILL ME!

This newgrounder has made tons of flash's like: "facebook problem" and "textinator" he is SH0T-D0WN!

Can I interview you?

Text: Yes.

Phone: Nay.

Ok, lets start by me asking you who are you?

Ben. I'd give you my last name, but I hardly know ye.

Ha, anyway how did you hear about flash and newgrounds?

Well one of my best friends found out about Ebaum's World via his older cousin in early 2007. He showed it to me, and that was when I first found out about Flash.

Not long after, like a week or so later we were talking about Chuck Norris; I think it was a game on EW called Chuck Norris and the Flying Ninjas or something; when his cousin overheard and told us to look up The Ultimate Showdown here on NG. Needless to say we did, and we started frequenting the site.

I didn't join, however, until I had managed to acquire a small, cheap SWF compiler from Sothink called the SWF Quicker. It was a decent program, but it lacked a pencil/brush tool so you could only draw with the pen.

I started making joke flashes for my friends; all of which are hilariously terrible. Eventually I became experienced enough with the program that I could make an actual movie, which resulted in An Easter Massacre.

your recent "facebook problem" flash you said was based on a true story could you tell it to me?

Like everyone I have a daily workout routine to keep myself in shape. However instead of jogging or hitting the gym I grab a few weights and rollerblade for an hour or two.

And, well, what had been a rather uneventful blade down a roadside trail that runs near my campus quickly turned into a hilarious fiasco when I was crossing a crosswalk (nearly back to the campus too) and got mowed down by a turning car. I had almost fully crossed and wasn't paying mind to the road anymore, so I didn't see the car to jump out of the way.

She, of course wasn't paying attention either. But luckily I hit about where the headlights are, so I didn't fall under the car. It basically whipped me and I went spinning to the side of the road.

After about ten seconds of "oh shit I'm fucked" I realized I wasn't in pain, and there wasn't any blood. Long story short I started laughing about it, gave the police report, and got picked up by an ambulance. On the ride, I updated my Facebook. Only later did I realize that I probably had bigger things to worry about than updating my statuses; I combined that with the "what if it was worse" idea, which gave me the premise for The Facebook Problem.

They gave me a splint and sent me home; my room mate picked me up and a few of my friends carried me up to my dorm room on the third floor. I didn't realize I had a fracture, however, until the next morning when I couldn't lift the leg at all due to epic pain. And eventually I got this cast.

I'm almost fully healed now though - I may or may not be able to walk by Thanksgiving depending on what the doctor says. I'm just glad I only have a fracture - lol.

lol, how did you choose your user name?

Hmm... To tell you the truth, I don't know. The "0"s that are in place of the "O"s probably come from that Runescape was still a good game when I joined, and I was used people to mixing 1337speak with actual words. But as for the name in general I guess it was just one of those "spur of the moment" things.

What inspires you to make flash?

When I was younger my friend (the same one who introduced me to flash) and I would draw comics. He's a great artist, however I had no artistic skill whatsoever. But as the years progressed I started becoming more and more artsy. And eventually I jumped from just drawing on paper to drawing with a mouse, which lead to flash.

The main reason that I animate now is simply to improve my artistic ability; and for fun. It's the best of both worlds - by drawing I improve my art, and at the same time I'm free to bring those drawings to life. I guess you could consider it a hobby.

The revenue and exposure are a nice bonus though.

I see, I hope to see more from you soon and it was fun interviewing you...also any last words?

;).

I have a problem with making flash, you see I have like 20 games on the go but only like 3 are active at a time and even when they are active they only stay active for like a week, a month max! So if you could help me with this I would appreciate it.

Thanks Jet
